Ontario's May forecast for 2026 is officially in, and if you're hoping for some stable weather to lead us into the summer, you might want to buckle up. It's already been a turbulent end to March across southern Ontario, with the weather swinging dramatically in just a matter of days. Last week brought frigid minus-teen wind chills that felt more like mid-winter than early spring, only to be followed by a gorgeous stretch of weather heading into this weekend, with temperatures climbing to 20 C . In between all of this, the region has also seen its fair share of rain and even thunderstorms, and unfortunately, it looks like this chaotic pattern is far from over . According to the long-range weather forecast from the Old Farmer's Almanac , May in southern Ontario is shaping up to be a mixed bag full of sunshine, showers, and periods of cooler-than-normal temperatures. The month is expected to start on a rocky note between May 1 and 9, with a combination of sunny skies, periods of rain, and cooler conditions. Things are expected to improve during the week of May 10 to 16, when we'll hopefully see a stretch of sunshine and a noticeable warm-up of temperatures. However, heading into the week of May 17 to 25 (which includes the Victoria Day long weekend), conditions are expected to turn cooler again, along with a few showers that could put some outdoor plans in jeopardy. By the final stretch of the month, from May 26 to 31, warmer temperatures are expected to return once again, although they'll likely be joined by scattered thunderstorms. Overall, the Almanac predicts that May in southern Ontario will run slightly cooler than usual, with an average temperature of 11 C (roughly 1 C below the seasonal average). Precipitation totals are expected to be around 90 mm, which is 30 mm above average in the north, and 10 mm below average in the south. Before we even get there, though, April is expected to continue the trend of unpredictable spring weather we've been seeing. The Almanac predicts that we'll see a rainy and warm start to the month, followed by a mix of showers, sunshine, and colder temperatures between April 9 and 15. From April 16 to 25, we can expect even more unsettled weather, with a mix of rain and snow showers before sunny skies and chilly temperatures take over. The month is expected to end on a cooler note, with more lingering showers between April 26 and 30. Similar to May, April's estimated average monthly temperature is 1 C below normal at 6 C, along with 75 mm of precipitation, which is slightly above average for this time of year. According to The Weather Network's spring forecast for 2026 , there are currently conflicting signs as to how the rest of spring will unfold, especially in May. While it's possible that a cooler pattern could dominate throughout the month, there is also a possibility of a pattern reversal, which the channel says "could result in a rather quick transition to early summer-like weather."
