"The Ggaba Early Childhood Development Programme in Kampala has been suspended with 'immediate effect', after a suspect armed with a machete entered the school and killed four children on Thursday. Footage captured on Friday shows reporters gathering at the nursery, where bloodstains and other signs of the attack remained visible across the compound, while much of the complex was cordoned off and guarded by police. Minister for Higher Education John Chrysestom Muyingo arrived at the site and was briefed on the attack by school officials. "This care management should provide a comprehensive report on the events that culminated in the demise of the said children," Muyingo said, noting that the school would be 'closed with immediate effect until further notice'. "Minister of Education and Sports will provide every possible support to the bereaved families and they go through this very difficult time. May the souls of our son and daughters, departed children, rest in eternal peace," the minister stressed. Earlier on Thursday, a 39-year-old man, identified by media as Christopher Onyum, reportedly posed as a parent to gain entry to the nursery before attacking the children with a machete. Four children, aged two to three, were confirmed dead following the assault, local police said. The suspect was later detained by police, with investigations ongoing to determine the motive for the attack. The attack has raised serious concerns about child safety in educational institutions, prompting calls for tighter oversight, particularly in privately run schools operated by religious organisations."
