PESHAWAR: Atleast 30 people, including children and women were killed, while more than 85 were injured in rain-related incidents in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here Saturday released a report detailing the human and material losses caused by ongoing rains across the province since March 25 last month. The PDMA report said from March 25 till now, a total of 30 people died in which 20 children, five men and women each included, whereas nearly 60 people had been injured, including 11 women and 38 children. Overall 140 houses, including 115 partially and 25 completely damaged due to torrential rain and thunderstorms, report said. READ ALSO: 25 killed, dozens injured as heavy rains hit Khyber Pakhtuknhwa The PDMA report said these incidents were occurred in Bannu, Abbottabad, Kohat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Bajuar, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, Hangu, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Dir Upper, Bttagram, South Waziristan and Tank. The emergency response institutions, including Rescue 1122, district administration, and relevant organisations were in a close liaison and continued rescue and relief activities in rain-hit regions of the province. Directives were issued to district administration to expedite aid/relief activities in rain-affected districts and immediate assistance to affected people, the PDMA said. Intermittent rains continue in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Reports say the new series of rains is likely to continue till April 4. Citizens were requested to avoid unnecessary travel and not visit sensitive tourism places in the province and follow the government institutions alerts and weather advisory. PDMA emergency operational central is fully functional, the officials said. If in case of any emergency, weather situation and unpleasant incident, and information, masses may contact through a special helpline 1700. Officials have assured that every possible step is being taken to mitigate the impact of the ongoing wet spell and to support the affected communities. Meanwhile, as many as two people were killed as torrential rain wreaked havoc in Landi Kotal on Friday night. The deluge, caused by the rain, washed away a car carrying three people. While the bodies of two persons were fished out, search for the third one was underway till the filing of this story. According to reports, a child was killed while several others were injured after the roof of a house caved in in Landi Kotal due to rain. The incident took place in Zakha Khel Alacha area. Several other incidents of roof and wall collapse were also reported, while matriculation students faced difficulties in reaching the examination centers. Heavy rain also led to floods in streams and nullahs. Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi expressed deep sorrow and regret over the human and financial losses caused by recent rainfall incidents across various districts of the province. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the affected families, prayed for the forgiveness of those who lost their lives, and wished patience and strength for the bereaved. He also extended his best wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured. The Chief Minister directed hospital authorities to ensure that the injured receive timely and best possible medical care. He also instructed that rescue and relief operations be further accelerated. Moreover, he emphasized that the provincial government shares the grief of the affected families and will not leave them alone in this difficult time.
