Heavy rains, hailstorms forecast for various parts of country

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted another western disturbance approaching western Balochistan on the evening of April 5, which is expected to persist in upper parts of the country until April 9. Under the influence of this weather system, widespread rain-windstorms, thunderstorms, isolated heavy falls, and hailstorms are predicted across multiple regions. Balochistan: Rain-windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are expected in Chaghi, Dalbandin, Kharan, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Mastung, Sibbi, Kohlu, Naseerabad, and Loralai from the night of April 5 to the morning of April 7, with occasional gaps. On April 6, similar weather is expected in Panjgar, Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Makran Coast (Gawadar, Pasni, Ormara), and Lasbella. READ ALSO: 25 killed, dozens injured as heavy rains hit Khyber Pakhtuknhw Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Widespread rain-windstorms and thunderstorms, with snowfall over mountains, are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Swabi, Charsadda, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan from April 6 to April 9, with occasional gaps. Heavy falls and hailstorms are also likely at scattered places on April 7 and 8. Punjab and Islamabad: Widespread rain-windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are expected in Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Noorpurthal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Pakpattan, Okara, Kasur, and Sahiwal from the evening/night of April 6 to April 9, with occasional gaps. Rain-windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms are expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, and Khanewal on April 6 and 7. Heavy falls and hailstorms are also likely in Islamabad, the Pothohar region, and upper districts on April 7 and 8. Sindh: Scattered rain-windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are expected in Sukkur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Jamshoro, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Kambar Shahdadkot. Light to moderate rain-windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms are expected in Dadu, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Mityari, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, and Karachi on April 6. Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir: Moderate rain-windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls and snowfall over mountains are expected in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar from the night of April 5 to April 9, with occasional gaps. Widespread rain-windstorms and thunderstorms with a few heavy falls and hailstorms are expected in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from April 6 to April 9, with occasional gaps. Possible impacts and advisories: Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir during the period. Flash floods are expected in Kashmir, northeast Balochistan (Khuzdar, Kalat, Mastung, Kohlu, Zhob, Barkhan, Loralai, Sherani), and the Koh-e-Sulaiman mountains on April 6, as well as in local streams and nullahs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Kohistan, Chitral, Buner, Abbottabad) from April 7 to 8. Urban flooding is also expected in Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Sialkot on April 7 and 8. Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may damage weak structures including electric poles, billboards, and solar panels during the forecast period. Hailstorms and windstorms may damage standing crops in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh. Farmers are advised to manage their crops according to prevailing weather conditions. Tourists and travellers are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Daytime temperatures are likely to decrease during the forecast period.
