Touching reunion! Risen Christ and Virgin Mary meet after Resurrection at Salubong celebration in Manila

"Thousands of Filipino Catholics flocked to Quiapo Church in Manila at dawn to witness the Salubong, a traditional Easter Sunday ritual featuring the dramatic reenactment of the Risen Christ meeting the Virgin Mary, marking the start of Easter celebrations. Footage of a crowd of devotees welcoming statues of the Risen Christ and Virgin Mary, as the two separate processions moved through the city streets.  In front of the church, the ritual reached its peak as the black mourning veil covering Mary’s face was lifted, symbolising the joyful reunion of Jesus with His Mother after the Resurrection. “We are celebrating Salubong or the encounter of the Risen Christ [with his mother] so that we will be reminded and really see the true revelation of our lord Jesus Christ, to us that he is the resurrected God,” Father Jude Genovia of Malate Church stated. “Praying that the war would end so that there will be peace on earth and then for my family’s good health, abundance and safety,” one of the attendees, Michelle Isla, added. Named after the Tagalog word ‘meeting’, the Salubong is a popular Filipino ritual held on early Easter Sunday, usually in a churchyard. The religious celebration dates back to the Spanish era in the Philippines."
