'We know what bold decision you took!' - Netanyahu congratulates Trump after 'incredible' US pilot rescue from Iran

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated President Donald Trump on Sunday on the 'incredible' rescue of a US airman, after an F‑15E was downed over Iranian territory. "All Israelis rejoice in the incredible rescue of a brave American pilot by America's dauntless warriors. This proves that when free societies muster their courage and their resolve, they can confront seemingly insurmountable odds and overcome the forces of darkness and terror," Netanyahu said. "I know what a bold decision you took, President Trump. Donald, my dear friend, once again, your decisive leadership brought another great victory to America. I salute you. We all do," he continued. The rescue followed the downing of a US F‑15E Strike Eagle by Iranian forces on Friday, one of the first known losses of an American crewed jet over Iran in the ongoing Middle East conflict. US President Trump described the operation as "one of the most daring search and rescue operations in US history." "At my direction, the US Military sent dozens of aircraft, armed with the most lethal weapons in the World, to retrieve him. He sustained injuries, but he will be just fine," Trump wrote on social media. "This miraculous search and rescue operation comes in addition to a successful rescue of another brave pilot, yesterday, which we did not confirm, because we did not want to jeopardise our second rescue operation," he added. Israeli officials said they provided key intelligence to help locate the airman, even pausing their own operations to support the effort. Iranian state media, however, said the US operation was 'completely foiled,' and shared images of destroyed American aircraft as evidence that Tehran's defences had successfully struck multiple US planes involved in the operation. Tensions have escalated across the Middle East since the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, amid diplomatic talks aimed at 'curbing Iran's nuclear and missile programmes'. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes on Israeli and US assets in the region, accompanied by reports of explosions in several Gulf countries. Iran later confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with his son Mojtaba Khamenei named as his successor."
