"Four people were killed and several others injured in an Israeli strike on Beirut's southern Al-Janah district on Saturday, according to Lebanese media Footage shows debris and rubble strewn across the site as smoke rises into the air, while rescue teams work amid the destruction. Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Avichay Adraee had issued an evacuation warning to residents of Beirut's southern suburbs, specifically in the neighbourhoods of Haret Hreik, Ghobeiri, Laylaki, Hadath, Borj al-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir and Chiyah. "The Israeli army continues to operate and attack the military infrastructure of the terrorist Hezbollah across various parts of the southern suburbs," the statement added. Tensions have escalated across the Middle East since the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, amid diplomatic talks aimed at curbing 'Iran's nuclear and missile programmes.' Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes on Israeli and US assets in the region, with reports of explosions in several Gulf countries. Iran later confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with his son Mojtaba Khamenei named as his successor. The conflict spilt over into Lebanon as Hezbollah intervened 'in revenge' for the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader. Shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, were disrupted following its closure."
