White lies or winter skies? Tourists flock to India's marble waste that looks just like snow

"India's Kishangarh has gained an unconventional attraction that draws tourists: an all-white marble dumping yard, often mistaken for snow-covered terrain. Footage filmed on Saturday shows the marble waste dumping yard transformed into a snow-like area, with a sign reading: 'Welcome to Snow Yard. Kishangarh Marble Association.' Employees can be seen transporting marble, while visitors drive cars, ride horses, and take pictures with the white backdrop. "It's waste, it's hard, crushed, and sandy. When it flies, it enters our lungs, nose, and stomach, causing infections. It’s not flying now because it has rained. It's marble waste, so when the wind blows, it spreads and enters our bodies," warned visitor Mohammed Akram. Another visitor, Ajay Singh, described the site as resembling snow and said it is ideal for photoshoots, sightseeing, and tourism. The site attracts more than 5,000 visitors every day, with numbers rising up to 20,000 on weekends. Although the administration and local business owners welcome the national tourism spotlight on the 'Marble City of India,' farmers in nearby villages are worried, as marble dust frequently blankets their fields, harming soil quality and crop yield. Visitors can enter for free, but a pass must be collected from the Kishangarh Marble Association (KMA) office, about a kilometre away. Those bringing a single digital camera pay Rs 500 (USD 5), while a pre-wedding shoot costs Rs 5,100 (USD 50) per day, and commercial shoots can cost up to Rs 21,000 (USD 220) per day."
