Heavy rainfall may damage crops

ISLAMABAD: Heavy rainfall starting from today (Monday) may cause flash flood and damage to crops in different parts across the country, according to a latest weather alert issued by the government. “Due to heavy rainfall, flash flood may occur in local nullas of north-eastern Balochistan, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan on 06 April while landslides and flash flooding in local nullas of Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat on 7 and 8 April,” read the weather alert issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday. Hailstorm/windstorm may damage standing crops in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said the alert. READ MORE: Heavy rains, hailstorms forecast for various parts of country The windstorm/ hailstorm and lightning may damage “weak structures like electric poles, billboards, solar panels” during the forecast period, it said. The PMD said a strong westerly wave is likely to approach Balochistan from today, and is likely to persist in upper/central parts till Wednesday. “Widespread rain-windstorm/thunderstorm (with isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorm) is expected in north-eastern Balochistan, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and south Punjab, while partly cloudy weather with rain wind/thunderstorm is likely at Isolated places in Sindh, upper/central Punjab, south/central Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during evening/night,” the PMD weather alert said.
