MANILA, Philippines—Free rides in the city of Manila will continue today, April 6, Mayor Isko Moreno said. In a Facebook post, Moreno advised the public to look for vehicles displaying “LIBRENG SAKAY (free rides)” signs or approach personnel from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau assisting participating drivers since not all jeepneys participated in the program. More than 1,400 jeepneys are expected to join the initiative, covering routes across the city. The mayor said 308,738 passengers benefited from the program during the first two days of implementation. The city government pays the daily income of participating jeepney drivers and operators, providing a subsidy of P3,500 per driver per day. While Moreno earlier announced that the 5-day program would be expanded “depending on available funds,” no announcement had been made whether it will continue beyond April 8.
