"A plume of grey smoke was seen floating over the Mayon Volcano in Luzon Island of the Philippines as its effusive eruption entered its 90th consecutive day on Monday. Mayon remains under Alert Level 3, indicating high unrest, while nearby Bulusan is under Alert Level 1, or low-level unrest, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). Lava flows were seen in several gullies on the volcano, along with occasional bursts of gas and rock. Over a 24-hour monitoring period, authorities recorded 159 volcanic earthquakes and several pyroclastic density current signals. Authorities set a six-kilometre Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), entry to which is strictly prohibited. Residents were advised to stay alert and follow evacuation and safety protocols. Mayon has erupted over 50 times in the last 400 years, making it the most active volcano in the Philippines. Its most violent episode occurred on February 1, 1814, burying the town of Cagsawa under 30 feet of ash and stone and killing over 1,200 people."
