MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Audit (CoA) has been appointed as the World Trade Organization's (WTO) external auditor, succeeding France's supreme auditing body, the Cour des Comptes. Upon the recommendation of the Committee on Budget, Finance and Administration, the WTO General Council chose CoA which will serve for a six-year term. "COA's appointment as the WTO's new external auditor demonstrates how the world views our capabilities as an independent audit body–reliable, trustworthy, and world-class," CoA Chairman Gamaliel Cordoba said. "We are committed to upholding the highest standards of independence and professionalism in our work with the WTO, continuing our mission to promote transparency and accountability in international institutions," Cordoba said. CoA will supervise the audit of WTO's financial statements, pension plan, and operations, the commission said in a statement. CoA, which previously served as external auditor for several agencies of the United Nations, has been lauded for its standards as well as its contribution in boosting transparency and accountability Previously, CoA served as external auditor for the World Health Organization, the International Labor Organization, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the Food and Agriculture Organization. Cordoba said the WTO appointment represented a significant milestone for CoA, showcasing its expanding influence and growing force in advancing transparency, accountability and good governance on the global stage.
