Woven masterpiece - Vietnam's largest rice‑field mural draws crowds with picturesque harvest display

"Vietnam's largest rice-field mural drew crowds in Ninh Binh this week, as visitors flocked to the lush green landscape to take in the stunning masterpiece ahead of the summer harvest. Footage captured on Monday shows tourists gliding along the riverbank, while onlookers perched in the mountains snap photos of the awe-inspiring display from above. "My first impression was the beautiful natural scenery, especially the lush green rice paddies and the winding rivers, which looked very impressive. Most notably, the mural representing the Year of the Horse holds significant traditional value for the Ninh Binh region," a tourist said. "This year's painting has a very good concept, representing the desire for prosperity of Tam Coc. And I'm very excited to see what this painting will look like when the main rice harvest season arrives," added a visitor. The Tam Coc rice field mural is located in the Hang Hai (Second Cave) area of the Tam Coc–Bich Dong tourist site. It is shaped like two horses in a traditional 'paying homage' pose, celebrating the Year of the Horse. Farmers planted Thai Xuyen rice, chosen for its colour contrast and sturdy stems to preserve the design. This year's mural, titled "Two Horses Paying Homage to Report Achievements", is inspired by Vietnamese folk poetry, symbolising 'returning in glory', and spans nearly 10,000 square metres along the Ngo Dong River."
