"Healthcare workers and academics staged a rally outside Imam Khomeini Hospital in Tehran on Monday to condemn US-Israeli attacks on medical and educational facilities. Footage shows participants waving Iranian flags and holding photos of victims, including medical workers, as well as images of damaged healthcare facilities. Speakers can be seen addressing the crowd from a stage. Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Shahin Akhundzadeh criticised what he described as international silence over the reported deaths of 170 schoolchildren in a US airstrike. He said the rally aimed to “awaken the conscience of people around the world,” adding that international organisations had failed to act. Professor Seyed Mohammad Akrami said the country had lost many medical professionals and facilities in the attacks. “We lost a lot of our friends and also many medical centres, which is a war crime. They said it would target the army, but it is not true — it is against the people,” he said. On Saturday, the Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that the conflict had killed around 1,900 people and injured more than 20,000 others. The organisation also cited damage to 763 schools, 322 health centres, 20 Red Crescent facilities and 18 university sites. Tensions escalated sharply after the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, during ongoing diplomatic talks aimed at "undermining Iran's nuclear and missile programs". Tehran subsequently announced retaliatory strikes on Israel and US assets across the region. During the escalation, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed and later succeeded by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei. The conflict widened further after Hezbollah launched strikes on Israel, saying they were in retaliation for Khamenei’s assassination and Israeli operations in Lebanon. The conflict saw shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz disrupted, pushing oil prices above $100 per barrel and adding pressure to global markets. "
