MANILA, Philippines -- Another Filipino was killed in a missile attack in Israel, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday. The unidentified Filipina, her Israeli husband and elderly parents-in-law were killed "in a missile attack on a residence in Haifa, Israel on the evening of April 5," the DFA said. "The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv has informed the [victim's] family [in the Philippines] and is providing all necessary assistance, including arrangements for the earliest possible repatriation of her remains despite the current travel situation in the region," the DFA said in a statement. The department said it has reached out to support the victim's family during this difficult time. "The family requests privacy at this difficult time to grieve in peace," it added. "We join the Filipino community in praying for her eternal rest and for strength for her family during this time of profound loss," the DFA said. Mary Ann Velasquez de Vera, a 32-year-old caregiver from Basista, Pangasinan, was the first Filipino killed in the United States-Israel war on Iran. She succumbed to injuries after an Iranian missile struck her apartment in Tel Aviv while she was assisting her ward to safety on February 28. De Vera was identified by her husband, who is also a Filipino worker in Israel. She had been working in Israel since 2019. Her identity was confirmed through biometric records at the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute, where her husband, positively identified her remains.
