Lawmaker tells ERC to inspect power firms' pricing of electricity

MANILA, Philippines—A congressman on Tuesday filed a resolution urging the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to strictly monitor electricity pricing of power companies. The resolution submitted by Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr. also asked the commission to study the cutting the value-added tax (VAT) on power bills to cushion the impact of its possible increase on consumers. The lawmaker made the call amid an expected hike in VAT due to the ongoing Middle East war.
