"Communist Party General Secretary To Lam was sworn in as Vietnam’s state president on Tuesday, pledging loyalty to the fatherland after being elected by the National Assembly for the next five years. "I hereby swear to be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the people and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to strive to fulfil all tasks entrusted to me by the Party, the State and the people," said Lam during his oath ceremony in Hanoi. The National Assembly unanimously elected To Lam as state president, with all 495 deputies present voting in favour. He now holds both the posts of Communist Party general secretary and state president, further consolidating his grip on power. To Lam is a long-serving senior Party figure who has held a series of key posts, including secretary of the Central Military Commission. He has also played a leading role in Vietnam's anti-corruption drive and has served multiple terms in both the Politburo and the National Assembly."
