"One person was killed, and two firefighters were injured after a fire broke out on Monday morning beneath the Bridge of the Americas, the oldest bridge spanning the Panama Canal. Authorities said the blaze was sparked by a large explosion involving fuel tanker trucks at a logistics complex beneath or next to the bridge's support structure. Footage released by the Panama Fire Department shows crews working to put out the blaze. Fire Department Colonel Victor Alvarez confirmed at a press conference that a worker was killed after being trapped between two tanker trucks following the explosion. He added that the fire had been fully extinguished and crews were carrying out cooling operations. The Public Ministry opened an investigation into the cause of the incident. The Ministry of Public Works ordered the temporary closure of the Bridge of the Americas, while officials said a structural inspection would be carried out before the bridge reopens."
