MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Sara Duterte said she is "humbled' to be the adopted daughter of Lamut in Ifugao Province after she graced their foundation day and town festival held Monday. Lamut is one hour from the provincial capital of Lagawe. In her speech on Monday, Duterte thanked Lamut Mayor Mariano Buyagawan, Vice Mayor Brix Paul Chaguile, and other town officials for inviting her at the Rambakan Festival. Duterte said that she was "surprised" to be invited at the festival, adding that she did not know that many of the town's residents know her. She even joked that there could be a possibility that the mayor could be suspended as those who invite her were later suspended. "All of the friends who invite me have their mayors or village chiefs suspended, that's why while I was listening to the Mayor's speech earlier, I was thinking if my impeachment complaints will be increased or will he would be suspended?," Duterte said. She later told the audience that Lamut is a "community that honors its traditions while embracing development,", and urged them to rememver that progress "should uplift our culture and should not leave our traditions behind," "Our heritage should guide us as we move forward and when culture and progress are recognized together, we build not only stronger communities but also a future where our children embrace their roots as they do with progress," Duterte added.
