INTERIOR Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Tuesday said there had been sightings of fugitive businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang in Vietnam.“[According to] Intelligence reports, he arrived in Vietnam. [The report said the sighting was over] a month ago, but we are still verifying through backchannels and our counterparts in Vietnam,” he told reporters in an interview. With no record of exit in the Bureau of Immigration, Ang likely escaped through backdoor exits in Mindanao, Remulla said. Remulla clarified that the information is being verified. Once it is validated, they will pursue appropriate actions through proper channels. Remulla said the next move would be to push the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime to request the Interpol to issue a red notice against Ang. The Department of the Interior and Local Government earlier offered a P20 million reward for information that would lead to Ang’s arrest. Whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan earlier claimed Ang could be hiding in Cambodia, where he is allegedly operating an e-sabong (online cockfighting) there. The Cambodian government denied Ang’s presence in their country. Ang is facing three arrest warrants for kidnapping with homicide, kidnapping, and serious illegal detention related to the missing “sabungeros” or cockfight enthusiasts.
