Against the water - Rescuers battle flooding at Santa Fe mine to reach three trapped miners

"Civil Protection personnel continue search operations at the Santa Fe mine in the state of Sinaloa to rescue three miners who have been trapped inside since March 25. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows rescue personnel inside the mine, which is 300 meters deep and 3.2 kilometres long. Canine teams are also participating in these efforts. Due to water in lower levels, authorities are operating a 25-horsepower electric pumping system to manage the infiltration. Additionally, a group of engineers is evaluating the incorporation of a second pumping unit to extract the water. According to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, on April 6, sediment material was removed, and a flood depth of 50 centimetres was detected in one of the zones. In response, the Command Post decided to modify the intervention strategy by adapting search methods to the mine's hydraulic and geological variables. These operations involve federal authorities and personnel from Industrial Minera Sinaloa, the operator of the Santa Fe mine. The incident occurred on March 25, when a tailings dam collapsed at the mine, trapping four of the 25 workers present. 21 escaped, and one of the four trapped miners was rescued alive after 100 hours."
