"The Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer launched an immersive experience called 'Olhar do Redentor,' offering visitors a new way to explore the landmark through augmented reality. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows a projection mapped onto the statue, as well as visitors using VR headsets at the site on Corcovado hill. The experience allows visitors to view the monument from a new perspective, described as seeing through Christ's eyes. The experience includes panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro landmarks, including Guanabara Bay and the surrounding mountains, along with information on the construction of Christ the Redeemer and its original design. "Christ the Redeemer is the great symbol of the country, of Brazil to the world. It is about recovering the history of Christ. [...] anyone, anywhere in the world, can visit Christ," said Carlos Lins, representative of Sanctuary Christ the Redeemer. Organisers say the initiative is designed to extend access to the monument beyond the site itself, allowing remote visits via mobile devices while giving visitors on location additional information in real time. "He has access to various new pieces of information through augmented reality. [...] he can discover, for example, the original design of Christ," Carlos added. With the project, Christ the Redeemer is seeking to strengthen its appeal as a global tourist destination by using digital tools to offer visitors a more interactive and personalised experience."
