Africa in the spotlight! - 1,800 tech startups and investors flock to Marrakech for GITEX 2026

"The fourth edition of GITEX Africa 2026 has opened in Marrakech on Tuesday, bringing together more than 1,800 startups and innovators from over 130 countries under the patronage of King Mohammed VI. Footage shows visitors moving through exhibition halls and pavilions, engaging with digital innovations, vehicle displays and startup showcases, while officials and industry figures lead panel discussions. Amal Al-Fallah Al-Saghrushni, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, said the event offers local startups direct access to global investors and a platform to present projects focused on artificial intelligence and digitalisation. “This exhibition, hosting over 150,000 participants, along with 400 investors and $350 billion in active capital, brings together many young people and more than 360 Moroccan startups," the minister said. Abd Al-Nasser Mashoul, Secretary-General of Nigeria’s Ministry of Communication, said the country was participating for the second time. "We have brought twenty companies representing Niger. We support them seasonally to showcase their products, meet partners, and sign contracts," he added. Meanwhile, Alexei Andreyev, Russia’s trade representative in Morocco, described the exhibition as a key gateway for companies seeking to build partnerships and expand their presence across African markets. "Russian companies are participating for the fourth time in this event, and this year the Russian Exhibition Centre is participating under the slogan 'Made in Russia' along with the government of Saint Petersburg. Of course, small contacts turn into major contracts and real revenue," he said. Organisers say the event has become the continent’s largest startup-focused technology gathering, facilitating deal-making and cross-border collaboration."
