MANILA, Philippines — If the government cannot provide adequate aid to those hit hardest by the fuel price crisis, it should reduce or suspend the 12 percent value-added tax (VAT), Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste said on Wednesday. In a statement, Leviste noted that the Philippines has some of the highest fuel prices in Asia due to government taxes on these products.
