Iran’s Pezeshkian confirms of participating in Islamabad talks

Iran thanked Pakistan on Wednesday for its role in bringing a temporary ceasefire between Iran and the US , and conveyed that Íran would be participating in the negotiations in Islamabad. President Masoud Pezeshkian conveyed this during his phone call with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a press statement today. “During their warm and cordial conversation that lasted for over forty-five minutes, the Prime Minister conveyed his deep appreciation for the wisdom and sagacity of the Iranian leadership in agreeing to the ceasefire and for accepting the Prime Minister’s offer to host negotiations between Iran and the U.S. in Islamabad later this week,” the PMO said. PM Shehbaz also conveyed his respects to His Eminence Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. In their phone call, both leaders agreed to remain in close contact. Earlier, Trump announced that he had agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, saying that the deal was subject to Iran’s agreement to pause its blockade of oil and gas supplies through the strait, which typically handles about one-fifth of global oil shipments. In his post on X, the US president said, “This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE!” “The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East.” Trump said Iran had presented a 10-point proposal that was a “workable basis” for negotiations and that he expected an agreement to be “finalised and consummated” during the two-week ceasefire. Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his deepest gratitude to the leadership of both countries and invited their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10th April 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes. As per Iran’s ISNA news agency , Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Iranian parliament speaker and US Vice President JD Vance are expected to arrive in Pakistan for talks on Friday.
