"Residents in Tehran voiced scepticism on Wednesday over a proposed ceasefire with the United States and Israel, with protesters questioning whether the pause in fighting would hold. Footage shows demonstrators holding banners reading “Negotiation with Satan is a betrayal of the Quran,” alongside a caricature of Donald Trump with the caption: “His truce is a ruse, he will return again.” “This is not a ceasefire; it is a temporary cycle of peace and war, meaning that experience has shown that they establish a ceasefire, like in boxing or wrestling, and then take a break, then return stronger than before,” said one protester, Shams. "We never have confidence in the words of America. Still, we remain obedient to the command of the Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei," said another resident, Shakeri. The reaction follows a statement by Trump on social media that he had agreed to suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks, provided Tehran reopens the Strait of Hormuz. "We received a 10-point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate. Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two-week period will allow the agreement to be finalised and consummated," he wrote. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran’s armed forces would 'cease defensive operations' if attacks against the country stopped, adding that Tehran would permit 'safe passage' through the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks “via coordination with Iran's Armed Forces.” Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Iranian and US delegations are expected to meet in Islamabad on April 10 to continue negotiations towards a broader agreement. Tensions escalated after the United States and Israel launched joint military operations against Iran on February 28, during talks aimed at “limiting Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.” Tehran responded with strikes targeting Israeli and US assets across the region. Iran later confirmed the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was succeeded by his son Mojtaba Khamenei."
