"The new US ambassador to South Africa, Leo Brent Bozell III, declared he had fallen in love with the country as he presented his Letters of Credence at a formal ceremony in Pretoria, marking a renewed start to relation with Washington. Footage shows Bozell meeting South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guest House, where officials gathered to formally recognise the appointment. Ramaphosa welcomed Bozell and other ambassadors-designate, emphasising South Africa’s commitment to global peace, equality, and sustainable development. "We seek a world order that brings sustainable development and shared prosperity, for all and not just a few. Your presence here, as ambassadors and high commissioners of your countries, reflects that these are cherished aspirations," said Ramaphosa. "In South Africa, you will find a ready, willing, able, and capable partner for trade, development, progress, and peace," he added. Bozell echoed the sentiments, describing the occasion as a symbol of the historic bond between the two countries. "We are two nations with great shared values and interests," he said. "It's my goal in my time here to build on those shared interests, to build on self-respect, to build on our shared values, to take our two nations to places they've never been before." Bozell was nominated by Trump in March 2025, succeeding Reuben Brigety after being issued a demarche over remarks on South Africa’s current policy directions. It comes amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Pretoria, which have persisted since US President Donald Trump returned to office last year."
