Marcos urges Filipinos to ‘live out valor’ in day-to-day experiences

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday urged Filipinos to ‘live out valor’ in their day-to-day experiences as he joined the whole nation in commemorating the 85th Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor). In his message, Marcos stressed that bravery and heroism should not be left in the past, but must be lived more in the present amid the everyday challenges. Recalling how gallant Filipino soldiers fought in Bataan and Corregidor in World War II, the chief executive enjoined citizens to emulate their steadfast resolve to not surrender in the face of suffering and grief. “Their heroism is not just part of our history. It is a living reminder that the spirit of valor endures in every Filipino who continues to strive and rise for their family and country. Our challenges may be different now, but what is needed to overcome remains the same: patience, unity, and love for our country,” he said in Filipino. “So, I invite everyone to live out their courage in every right decision, in every helping hand, and in every stand for what is right. Because the true strength of a nation is not measured solely by the victories we have won. It is measured by how we stand and fight as a nation,” he added. Celebrated every April 9th, the Day of Valor is a national observance commemorating the sacrifices of Filipino and American soldiers during WWII particularly in the Bataan Death March, a brutal march where many died from hunger, exhaustion, and abuse.
