'Obviously Tehran won!' - Hundreds in Karachi celebrate 'victory' as religious leaders praise US-Iran ceasefire

"Hundreds of activists rallied and celebrated their 'victory gathering' in Karachi's Numaish Chowrangi historic intersection as they welcomed the US-Iran two-week ceasefire allowing negotiations to proceed. Footage filmed on Wednesday night shows rally participants holding portraits of Iran's supreme leaders Ali and Mojtaba Khamenei. They also chanted slogans and waved flags while religious leaders delivered speeches. "The United States and Israel have not fulfilled any of their objectives. Iran has been adamant since day one and has presented its own conditions. The whole world is admitting that Iran has won [...] even the American and Israeli media are admitting that they have surrendered; obviously Iran won," said scholar Hasan Zafar Naqvi. "Today, the whole world and the Muslim world have seen that none of the US claims has been successful. In fact, in 50 US states, around 10 million people have come out against US aggression," added leader of the Shia Ulema Council Nazir Abbas Taqvi. Celebrations follow after Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif offered to host peace talks in Islamabad later this week. Earlier, he called on Trump to extend the deadline and 'allow diplomacy to run its course'. The US and Iran agreed a conditional two-week ceasefire on Tuesday night, shortly before Donald Trump's own deadline for a deal and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Both sides described it as a 'victory'. Trump, who earlier warned that 'a whole civilisation will die' if an agreement isn't reached, claimed 'total and complete victory' and said the new deal would also depend on the 'complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz'. Iran's Supreme National Security Council was quoted by Iranian media, saying, "We congratulate all the people of Iran on this victory and emphasise that until the details of this victory are finalised, there is still a need for perseverance and prudence on the part of the authorities and for maintaining the unity and solidarity of the Iranian people." Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran would allow 'safe passage' through the Strait during the ceasefire 'via co-ordination with Iran's Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations' - while Iran also sent the US side a 10-point plan via Pakistan."
