GO Transit closures this weekend will make for challenging commutes across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Metrolinx has announced that it will shutter service on two entire GO Transit lines — the Lakeshore East and Stouffville lines — for the entire weekend of April 11-12, 2026. The closure will cover approximately 100 kilometres of track, spanning 21 stations, and here's everything you need to know to prepare for the bumpy weekend commute ahead. Lakeshore East Line The entire Lakeshore East Line will be out of service this weekend to accommodate planned construction, with GO buses replacing trains between Durham College Oshawa and Pickering GO, before travelling directly to Union Station Bus Terminal. Metrolinx Trains will resume on Monday, April 13, though Metrolinx warns that "some trains will need to run at slower speeds due to construction completed over the weekend." Metrolinx explained in a news release that the closure is required for the ongoing GO Expansion project, and will involve the installation of "crossover switches, new track panels, replacing ballast, track surfacing, track drainage, welding and destressing." The closure also allows key utility work to progress on the Ontario Line. Regular service on the line will resume on Tuesday, April 14. Stouffville Line The full Stouffville Line will also be out of service this weekend due to planned construction, with GO buses to cover the gap in service at all stations except Milliken, Agincourt and Kennedy GO. Metrolinx The closure will allow crews to conduct necessary maintenance work on retaining walls within the rail corridor. Metrolinx has shared a detailed breakdown of alternate travel routes and notices to navigate this weekend's closure. Regular service is scheduled to resume on Monday, April 13. In addition to the two major GO Transit closures, over five kilometres of the TTC subway network will shut down this weekend , further complicating travel around the region.
