Quezon mayor suspends sports events amid rising fuel costs

LUCENA CITY, QUEZON, Philippines — The mayor of Sariaya, Quezon, has ordered the suspension of all sports tournaments starting April 6 to help conserve electricity and fuel amid the ongoing national energy emergency. In a memorandum, Mayor Marivic Gayeta directed barangay officials, Sangguniang Kabataan leaders, and concerned offices to immediately halt all ongoing sports leagues, tournaments, and related activities at both barangay and municipal levels. She also ordered officials to refrain from organizing or sponsoring new sports events during the suspension period.
