Show of support – Thousands in Ladakh mark 40 days since Ali Khamenei’s death, express solidarity with Iran

"Thousands of members of the Shia community gathered in Ladakh region on Thursday to mark the 40th day since the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Footage shows mourners taking part in religious rituals, prayers, and Quran recitations, while listening to speeches expressing solidarity with Iran. “We have gathered here in solidarity with the people of Iran and to show our support and sympathy with the government of Iran. We welcome the ceasefire announcement. It’s a victory for Iran,” said participant Shaikh Hussain Rajai, calling for continued resistance against what he described as ‘oppression.’ Another participant, Sheikh Hassan, said Khamenei ‘is still alive in our hearts,’ while expressing scepticism over the durability of the ceasefire and criticising Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen. “We have assembled here to commemorate the death of our supreme leader, Syed Ali Khamenei. We also strongly condemn Israel’s policies and its attacks on innocent civilians in the Middle East [...] The killing of innocent civilians in Lebanon must be stopped,” added the chief event organiser, Mohammad Abdullah. In Iran, commemmoration events began on Wednesday evening after Maghrib and Isha prayers from mosques and husseiniyas, heading toward main squares and holy sites across the country. It comes as Iran and the US agreed a ceasefire on Tuesday night, with both sides claiming a 'victory'. Talks are expected in Islamabad this weekend. The US and Israel have been engaged in a military conflict with Iran since February 28, which began with the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei."
