Czech Towns With Best Quality of Life Named

For the second year in a row, Turnov has been ranked as the best place to live in the Czech Republic, according to the Regional Prosperity Index by Česká spořitelna and Europe in Data. Luhačovice and Žamberk followed in second and third place. At the other end of the ranking were Horšovský Týn, Bílina, and Podbořany, which was also last in last year’s list. The study compared life in 205 municipalities and Prague using 49 indicators across seven areas, including housing, healthcare, education, leisure, and public services. Analysts said Turnov performed strongly across all categories, especially in leisure opportunities and sports facilities. The biggest improvement came from Nový Bor, which climbed 82 places to 92nd. Králíky rose 73 places to 35th, while Litoměřice moved from 162nd to 90th place. Prague also improved, moving from 23rd to ninth place, while Brno rose ten spots to 25th. According to Tomáš Odstrčil, an analyst at Europe in Data, the Czech Republic is very fragmented in terms of the level of individual regions, even though the republic as a whole has almost caught up with the European average. “We need to strengthen regional centers so that regional differences are reduced,” he said.
