"A demonstration by workers demanding wage increases in Caracas led to a tense standoff with police on Thursday, after a deployment of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) blocked the advance of the march. Footage shows verbal exchanges and pushing between some demonstrators and police officers, as well as attempts by some participants to hit motorcycles belonging to the security forces. The protest had been called to march from Plaza Venezuela to the Miraflores Palace, with the aim of demanding wage adjustments in response to the current economic situation. However, the route was interrupted when authorities prevented the march from continuing, triggering several skirmishes. Protesters expressed their discontent and frustration over the absence of political representatives and what they described as a lack of interest from the government in addressing their demands, while clarifying that the situation was not a conflict with the police, who they said were just doing their job. "We are marching here, but the leaders who are out there are only talking through social media, so look, the police are pushing us there, attacking us here. They, poor things, are just doing their job," said one of the demonstrators. "What happens is that, with all this sabotage that was done to us, we are on the streets. And this message is for those people who respect the people. This is a warning," added another protester. According to local reports, some participants attempted to continue the route, which led to further moments of tension with security forces deployed in the area. In response, pro-government sectors called a separate march in Caracas in support of government policies, resulting in the simultaneous presence of opposing gatherings in different parts of the capital. Security deployment was reinforced to prevent incidents and maintain public order. The Venezuelan government announced that it will present a wage increase on May 1, although no details have yet been provided regarding the amount or how it will be implemented for workers."
