ISLAMABAD: Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that helped secure a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, as well as planned negotiations between the two sides in Islamabad. During a telephone call, the Qatari leader praised Pakistan’s role in brokering a two-week ceasefire in the conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran, and welcomed high-level talks scheduled to take place in federal capital later this week. Sharif thanked the Qatari leader for his appreciation of Islamabad’s mediation efforts and commended Qatar’s leadership for what he described as restraint in the face of sustained attacks over recent weeks. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Qatar’s leadership and people, adding that the two countries would continue to stand together.
