SPD logs 3,794 violators of local ordinances

THE Southern Police District (SPD) logged 3,794 local ordinance violators in two straight Oplan Bulabog/Galugad operations from April 8 to April 10, as police stepped up enforcement following the rollout of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Safer Metro Manila Plan this week. Launched on April 6, the Safer Metro Manila Plan calls for stricter enforcement of laws against public intoxication, loitering, indecent exposure, and videoke operations beyond 10 p.m., with the National Capital Region serving as the pilot area. In Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Pasay, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, and Parañaque, most of SPD’s apprehensions involved drinking in public, smoking, curfew violations, excessive karaoke use, public urination, littering, and other breaches of local ordinances, according to the police district’s press releases. In the April 8 to April 9 operations, SPD recorded 2,220 ordinance violators, 2,098 were warned and released, while 122 were fined. In the next round from April 9 to April 10, SPD logged 1,574 more ordinance violators, with 1,338 warned and released and 236 fined. The two operations also resulted in 17 drug arrests and the seizure of P116,885 worth of illegal substances, based on SPD figures from the two releases you shared. Police also arrested 29 individuals for illegal gambling, six for possession of loose firearms, and five wanted persons during the same operations.
