Bangladesh lauds Pak role in ME ceasefire

KARACHI: Bangladesh has expressed pride over Pakistan’s successful mediation of ceasefire in the Middle East, terming it a significant and widely appreciated development. Bangladesh High Commissioner Md Iqbal Hossain Khan said Pakistan is expected to play a more vital role in global affairs in the coming days. He noted that both countries continue to support each other on common causes, while people in Bangladesh and Pakistan are looking forward to stronger bilateral relations. He was addressing the 55th anniversary celebration of Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day at a local hotel. The High Commissioner said he has been serving in his current assignment for about one year and four months, during which cooperation between the two countries has improved across several areas. He highlighted Bangladesh’s economic importance and said collaboration in textiles, minerals, and other industries remains strong, with cooperation expanding in multiple sectors. He added that Bangladesh serves as a gateway for Pakistan to expand trade towards the Middle East, while Pakistan offers Bangladesh access to Central Asia and other regions. Deputy High Commissioner Muhammad Sakib Sadakat thanked Pakistan’s leadership, including the President and Prime Minister, for their role in strengthening bilateral ties. He emphasised that enhanced leadership engagement and people-to-people contacts would further deepen the brotherly relationship between the two countries. He also appreciated the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for hosting members of the Bangladeshi diaspora and supporting the establishment of diplomatic missions in Islamabad and Karachi. He noted ongoing efforts to improve connectivity, including plans for direct flights between Lahore and Dhaka and enhanced shipping links. Highlighting economic cooperation, he said bilateral trade has increased by around 20 percent in recent months, with expectations of further growth. Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, in his address, said Pakistan is a peaceful country playing a key role in promoting global peace. He described Pakistan as an advocate of harmony, adding that the Prime Minister and Field Marshal are making continuous efforts for lasting peace in the region and beyond. He congratulated the government and people of Bangladesh on their National Day and Independence Day and presented a bouquet to the High Commissioner.
