LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has dismissed two officers after charges of corruption and procedural violations were established against them. According to official orders, a copy of which is available with Business Recorder , issued under the WAPDA Employees (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 1978, the Director of Customer Services approved the removal from service of Zain-ul-Abideen, Acting Assistant Manager, and Sajid Hussain, Assistant Manager, with immediate effect. According to the order, the dismissed officials have been allowed a period of two months to file appeals in line with the prescribed rules and regulations. Lesco authorities said this action forms part of wider efforts to strengthen accountability and ensure transparency within the organisation. They added that the move follows directives from Lesco Chief Executive Ramzan Butt, who has called for strict enforcement of discipline across all tiers of the company, reiterating that corruption, negligence, and rule violations will not be tolerated. Meanwhile, in an operation, Lesco’s Northern Circle team detected a major case of electricity theft near Data Darbar, involving a private establishment identified as New Madni Hotel. Officials said the inspection revealed meter tampering, including reversal of the meter, to illegally consume electricity. The meters were confiscated, and an FIR was registered at the local police station. The hotel owner was also taken into custody with police assistance, officials confirmed. According to LESCO authorities, a detection bill amounting to approximately Rs 3.3 million, covering 45,619 units, has been issued for recovery.
