ISLAMABAD The launch of the Chery Tiggo 7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) comes at a defining moment for Pakistan’s mobility landscape, as rising fuel costs continue to reshape consumer preferences and increase the cost of everyday transportation. Positioned as a practical and timely solution, the Tiggo 7 PHEV offers a more efficient alternative by significantly reducing fuel dependence without compromising performance, comfort, or convenience. With claimed fuel savings of over 70 percent, the vehicle is expected to lower running costs while also contributing to reduced fuel imports. For daily commuting, the SUV can operate in pure electric mode, enabling most users to drive without consuming fuel, while offering a quieter and smoother driving experience. For longer journeys, it provides a combined range of over 1,200 kilometres, addressing range anxiety and ensuring flexibility. The company had earlier introduced the Tiggo 8 PHEV, described as Pakistan’s only 7-seater plug-in hybrid D-SUV, followed by the Tiggo 9 in the premium E-SUV category. With the addition of Tiggo 7, the company is expanding access to plug-in hybrid technology while building what it claims to be Pakistan’s largest CKD PHEV lineup, with local assembly from the outset. The company has also highlighted its rapid market entry and delivery performance, noting that Tiggo 8 PHEV units reached customers ahead of committed timelines, signalling an accelerated rollout of its hybrid ecosystem in Pakistan. The Tiggo 7 PHEV enters a segment largely dominated by conventional petrol and hybrid SUVs, where plug-in hybrid options remain limited, positioning itself as a technologically advanced and cost-efficient alternative. Globally, Chery claims to be the best-selling Chinese SUV brand in 2025, with the Tiggo 7 among its top-performing models. The model has remained one of the best-selling Chinese SUVs for four consecutive years and has surpassed one million users worldwide. Built on Chery’s fifth-generation Super Hybrid (CSH) platform, the Tiggo 7 PHEV combines a 1.5 TGDI engine with an 18.3 kWh battery and a dedicated hybrid transmission. The system delivers 255 kW of power, 342 horsepower, and 525 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds. The vehicle offers an electric-only range of over 90 kilometres, sufficient for most daily commutes, alongside lower fuel and maintenance costs, making it one of the more cost-efficient options in its category. Inside, the SUV features a 24.6-inch dual curved display powered by a Snapdragon 8155 chipset, an 8-speaker Sony sound system, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. Additional comfort features include heated and ventilated front seats, driver memory settings, and dual-zone climate control with N95 air filtration. On the safety front, the Tiggo 7 PHEV is equipped with eight airbags and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The company claims a five-star safety rating, strong NCAP performance, and recognition in J.D. Power studies. The vehicle also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality of 3.3 kW, enabling it to power external devices. Chery’s global footprint includes operations in over 120 countries and a user base exceeding 19 million. In Pakistan, the brand operates in partnership with Master Auto Engineering, part of the Master Group, which has over six decades of industrial experience. “This is not just about introducing another product,” said Samir Malik, CEO of Master Auto Engineering. “It is about responding to a real and immediate shift in how Pakistan needs to move. With Tiggo 7 PHEV, we are making advanced hybrid technology practical and accessible at the right time.” The Tiggo 7 PHEV, a premium 5-seater C-SUV, is being offered at an introductory ex-factory price of Rs 9,499,000, with a booking amount of Rs 1,500,000 for a limited period. The company expects to fulfill most orders by June 2026, with test drives available nationwide. With this launch, Chery Master Pakistan aims to accelerate the country’s transition toward more efficient and sustainable mobility solutions. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
