LAHORE: Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has given assent to the Stamp Duty Amendment Ordinance 2026. This law has caused great convenience for those buying and selling property in rural areas. Under the Stamp Duty Amendment Ordinance 2026, the rate of stamp duty has been made uniform in urban and rural areas and fixed at 01-percent. Earlier, 1-percent stamp duty was being collected in urban areas while 3-percent stamp duty was being collected in rural areas. The new measure aims to simplify the rules and protect buyers and investors in the real estate sector, improve administrative efficiency, broaden the tax base and increase long-term revenue stability. This measure will increase the purchase and sale of property in rural areas. Furthermore, the governor has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of former Punjab governor and senior politician Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa. He prayed that Allah Almighty may grant the deceased a high place in Paradise and give courage to the bereaved to bear this loss with patience and fortitude. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
