MANILA, Philippines — A bishop on Saturday urged the clergy, consecrated persons and lay leaders to live a simpler way of life, in solidarity with the poor, amid the global oil shortage caused by the Middle East war. In a pastoral letter, San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza, who also serves as the president of Caritas Philippines, said the church can be seen in the “daily realities around us.” He cites as examples the fisherfolk and drivers whose livelihoods can no longer sustain their families.
