House to file 'package of measures' to address impact of oil crisis once session resumes

MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives aims to file a "package of measures" that would address rising fuel costs to be filed when Congress resumes on May 4. In an interview, Marikina City Rep. Romero Quimbo, House Ways and Means Committee chairman, said that lawmakers were working through the congressional break to ensure that the measures would be in place once session resumes. Quimbo, concurrently the House Legislative Energy Action Development (LEAD) Council presiding officer, added that the planned legislation would tackle both immediate relief from the oil price shock and structural reforms to reduce the country’s vulnerability to global price swings. The House, Quimbo said, has been holding extended and back to back hearings, even during the session break, to speed up the process and deliver results. “Ito talaga ang pinamamadali ni Speaker [Faustino] Dy [3rd]. Sinabi niya, huwag na tayong maghintay, kahit tayo naka-break lahat. I want to start moving, (This is what Speaker Faustino Dy 3rd is prioritizing. He said that we should not wait, while we are on break, I want to start moving)," Quimbo said. Among the reforms being considered are incentives to promote cleaner and more sustainable transport, including support for electric vehicles and related industries through a new program that would promote electric vehicle use
