Holy guacamole! - Mexican town of Tancitaro smashes world record with giant dip

"The town of Tancitaro in the Mexican state of Michoacan broke the Guinness World Record for the world's largest guacamole on Friday, preparing more than six tonnes as part of the 13th Avocado Fair. Footage showed hundreds of people cutting avocados, tomatoes, lemons and other ingredients for the dish, which weighed 6,800 kilos and was prepared in two and a half hours. Event organiser and food engineer Melissa Medina said the record depended not only on the amount prepared, but also on other requirements. "For the record, the recipe required 80 per cent avocado and 20 per cent vegetables. In total, we used around 500 kilos of tomatoes, 500 kilos of onions and 500 kilos of lemons, as well as about 150 kilos of cilantro, 70 kilos of salt and 70 kilos of chilli," she explained. Hundreds of residents took part in preparing the guacamole, in coordination with Tancitaro's Local Plant Health Board, municipal authorities and local schools. The previous Guinness record for the world's largest guacamole was held by the nearby Michoacan town of Periban, with 4,970 kilos. Michoacan is one of Mexico's leading avocado-producing states, with around two million tonnes a year, according to authorities, and exports to markets including the United States, Canada, Japan, Asia and Europe."
