"Russian servicemen released from Ukraine-controlled territory shared their emotions upon returning home. Footage captured on Saturday shows the soldiers walking towards a bus with Russian flags draped over their shoulders and chanting, 'Thank you!' Daniil, a serviceman, said that he hasn't seen his mother in three years, sharing that the first thing he would do upon returning home would be to visit her. "Mum, I love you! I'm coming home! Grandma, grandpa, wait for me please!" the man emphasised. On Saturday, 175 Russian servicemen were returned from Ukraine-controlled territory, mediated by the UAE. The Russian Defence Ministry reported that 175 Ukrainian soldiers were handed over to Kiev in exchange. "Russian servicemen are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving the necessary psychological and medical assistance," the statement read, adding that seven Kursk region residents were also returning to Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the exchange and thanked the mediators. Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO. Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow."
