DMW: 109 OFWs repatriated from Qatar

(UPDATE) THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced Saturday that 100 more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived home from the Middle East after two flights that brought nearly 500 from Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday. The DMW said the development was part of government efforts to repatriate Filipinos caught in the middle of the war between Iran, the United States, and Israel. On Friday, 109 OFWs, along with an undisclosed number of dependents, arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City from Doha, Qatar, on board Qatar Airways Flight QR928. “Through a whole-of-government approach, assistance was immediately provided from Qatar up to their arrival in the country. This included financial assistance through the Aksyon Fund, airport assistance, psychosocial support, and other services to address their immediate needs,” the DMW said in Filipino. Also on Friday, the first commercial flight from Kuwait brought home 132 OFWs and their dependents, and then a government-chartered flight saw 342 Filipinos return to the country from Abu Dhabi in the UAE. The second repatriation flight was made possible through the DMW, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Philippine Embassy in the UAE, in compliance with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in making sure OFWs in the Middle East are safe. A total of 593 OFWs returned to the country via the three flights combined.
