Carbon vendors, residents petition for urgent JVA review

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Vendors and residents affected by the redevelopment of the Carbon Public Market have launched a signature campaign urging officials to reassess the project’s joint venture agreement (JVA). The groups warned that the deal between the Cebu City government and Cebu2World Development Inc. (C2W), a subsidiary of Megawide Construction Corp, could disrupt livelihoods and displace communities tied to the decades-old market. The petition, initiated on April 10 by groups including Carbon-hanong Alyansa, Cebu Market Vendors Multi-purpose Cooperative (Cemvedco), and Cebu City United Vendors Association (CCUVA), aims to gather up to 100,000 signatures.
