Road rage! - Trucks, tractors choke Dublin as protests over soaring diesel costs enter sixth day

"Demonstrators blocked roads in central Dublin on Sunday as protests over rising diesel costs entered their sixth consecutive day. Footage shows protesters rolling into the city in tractors and trucks as supporters gathered on roadsides waving Irish flags. Police reportedly moved in later to disperse the gathering with what one local described as a 'heavy-handed approach'. "Dragged out of lorries, dragged out of jeeps, breathalysed, really heavy handed, pepper spray, disgusting. It’s a peaceful protest. Micheal Martin is on saying Iran have the right to peaceful protest, but we’re not, in our own country. It’s time for change,” he said. Blockades were also reported at the Whitegate refinery in Cork, Ireland’s only oil refinery, as well as at ports and fuel depots. Irish authorities condemned the protests, with Prime Minister Micheal Martin describing the refinery blockade as 'an act of national sabotage'. The Irish government has since announced a 500 million euro package to support those 'most impacted' by the fuel crisis. Diesel prices have risen by more than 20 per cent in recent weeks, following disruptions linked to the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route."
