SHC’s directive on wall chalking welcomed

KARACHI: Saylani Welfare International Trust Chairman Maulana Muhammad Bashir Farooq Qadri welcomed the Sindh High Court’s directive for the removal of wall chalking, posters and banners across the province. In a statement, he called for strict legislation to penalise those defacing public property, suggesting fines and short-term imprisonment. He said such practices reflect a deteriorating social mindset and damage the city’s image. Highlighting Karachi’s condition, he noted that walls are covered with political slogans and advertisements of fake practitioners, while garbage piles and graffiti further worsen the urban environment. He added that such scenes create a negative impression on foreign visitors, particularly along key routes like Shahrah-e-Faisal. He regretted the lack of sustained action by civic authorities over the past decade, which led to court intervention. Urging swift implementation, he called on the Chief Secretary to mobilise commissioners and deputy commissioners to restore cleanliness. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
