Bon voyage! - Crowds cheer as Gaza humanitarian flotilla sets sail from Barcelona to break Israeli blockade

"Thousands of supporters gathered to send off a humanitarian flotilla departing for Gaza from Moll de la Fusta in Barcelona on Sunday, aiming to break the Israeli siege around the Palestinian territory. Footage shows backers standing near the dock, chanting slogans and waving Palestinian flags. According to the organisers, more than 2,000 people came to show their support for the 39 ships of the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza. “This mission is more like the alarm clock. The time has come for everybody to mobilise,” Brazilian activist Thiago Avila said. “We just need to show them that the time to act is now.” He noted that the mission is both humanitarian and political, aiming to break the blockade and draw global attention to the conditions inside Gaza. Backed by a coalition of more than 70 vessels, 1,000 participants, and partners across over 70 countries, the mission is now in its final departure phase from Barcelona, the Global Sumud Flotilla announced in a statement. "We really want to come much more powerful this time," stressed a Turkish activist, Sumeyra Akdeniz Ordu. "That's the reason why we are increasing the number of our boats, that's the reason why we are now having the strategy of a medical mission, of educators, eco-builders, to disembark and give assistance there." She added, "I'm more in belief right now, even if the political circumstances are showing blockages to us, we should not wait for conditions, we should create these conditions by having our strategies." The flotilla will stop in Italy, where more boats will join the fleet before sailing towards Palestine."
