"Peru's National Jury of Elections (JNE) announced on Sunday that voting in parts of Metropolitan Lima and two overseas constituencies would be extended to Monday, after logistical failures prevented thousands of voters from casting their ballots on election day. JNE Secretary General Yessica Clavijo Chipoco explained that the necessary measures were taken to ensure that citizens in the affected areas could exercise their right to vote without inconvenience, speaking at a press conference in Lima. "The following provisions shall apply: to extend the installation period of polling stations until April 13, from 07:00 to 14:00, according to their respective time zones. To extend voting hours until 18:00 on April 13, according to their respective schedules," she stated. The extension covers Metropolitan Lima, Orlando, Florida, and Paterson, New Jersey. Clavijo Chipoco added that the process will have reinforced security support to safeguard voters and the deployment of electoral material, stressing that the Ministry of Labour will issue provisions granting facilities to workers who must cast their vote on Monday. "Security and logistical support shall be provided through the National Police of Peru and the Armed Forces, guaranteeing security in the deployment and withdrawal of electoral material and for the public," the secretary remarked. She clarified that the restrictions on electoral campaigning will remain in place at the affected voting locations until the scheduled date, urging the media and the public to refrain from disseminating opinion polls or quick count results during this period to ensure fairness in the electoral process. Earlier, the head of the National Office of Electoral Processes, Piero Corvetto, issued a public apology, stating, "Regarding my remaining in office, I submit myself to any and all investigations that may be initiated, in whatever forum they may arise.""
